2 Days to Agafay Desert Tour & High Atlas mountains & Berber villages

We begin our 2-Day Agafay Desert Tour, High Atlas Mountains & Berber Villages with a morning pickup at 9:00 AM from your accommodation for a drive to the Ourika Valley, one of the most beautiful and pristine valleys in Morocco. This valley is about thirty kilometers long from Marrakech; it extends through the foothills of the High Atlas and contains traditional clay upland homesteads along the slopes.

Morning: Take a relaxing mint tea break at a traditional Berber family home before proceeding to visit a local Berber women’s cooperative producing Argan oil in the region. Learn more about how this precious product is sourced from the Argan tree and its various culinary and cosmetic applications.

Moreover, we will continue along the Oued Ourika (Ourika River), which has flowing water throughout most of the year, nurturing vegetable and fruit orchards. Take a pleasant break and enjoy a cup of tea at a cafe by the river. The journey then takes you to a quiet, friendly Berber village in the southern face of the High Atlas Mountains at an altitude of 1,500 meters. Subsequently, move on to Sidi Fares Valley/Oasis to have lunch in a local restaurant or traditional family house, followed by a short walk above the village.

In the afternoon, follow the scenic forest track to the region of Sidi Fares below Mount Oukaimeden, offering enchanting views of the mountain peaks before arriving at Ait Mizane Valley near Toubkal. Carrying on to the Kik Plateau, the terrain gradually shifts into the sparse light-brown plateaus of the Agafay Desert.

Arriving in Agafay around 4:00 PM, check in at the camp, embark on a scenic camel ride, and enjoy a tea break in a nomad tent while watching the level sunset. Once dinner is served, the camp offers an unprecedented spectacle of the night sky in the middle of the desert. (Note: In winter months, the sunset camel ride and tea may take place on the second day to align with earlier daylight hours. Overnight at luxury camp).

Enjoy breakfast at the camp as the morning unfolds over the peaceful desert. At 10:00 AM, guests who wish to add some excitement can embark on an optional quad bike tour directly from the campsite. Guests seeking relaxation can enjoy a nature walk or unwind by the camp’s swimming pool.

Following the morning activities or free time, a delicious traditional lunch is served at the camp, offering a relaxing moment to taste Bedouin-style cuisine surrounded by the quiet stone desert. Later in the afternoon, around 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, our driver meets you for the return journey back to Marrakech, arriving at your accommodation by approximately 5:00 PM (around 7:00 PM in winter), bringing your memorable two-day mountain and desert adventure to a close.
