Tour Plan
Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Cedar Forest of Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Dunes
Depart Fes at 08:00 AM heading south through the alpine town of Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco”. Stop in the ancient Cedar Forest of Azrou to see wild Barbary macaque monkeys in their natural habitat.
Cross the Middle Atlas Mountains to Midelt for lunch, then descend through the scenic red cliffs of the Ziz Valley, Morocco’s vast palm canyon. By late afternoon, reach the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga.
Overnight: Traditional hotel at the dune edge in Merzouga with dinner and breakfast.
Day 2: Merzouga Desert Safari – Khamlia Gnawa Village – Nomad Tents – Sunset Camel Trek & Camp
Enjoy a full day dedicated to Saharan discovery. Take a 4×4 excursion to Khamlia village to listen to hypnotic, ancestral Gnawa music performed by descendants of former sub-Saharan slaves.
Visit traditional Berber nomad families living in hand-woven goat-hair tents, and explore the ancient desert market of Rissani. In the late afternoon, mount your camel for a sunset trek deep into Erg Chebbi’s towering dunes to your desert camp for dinner, drumming, and stargazing.
Overnight: Private tent at Merzouga Desert Camp.
Day 3: Merzouga Sunrise – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Tinghir – Dades Valley
Experience sunrise over the dunes before breakfast and camel ride back to the vehicle. Travel west through Erfoud to the dramatic Todra Gorges, taking a peaceful walk along the canyon riverbed beneath 300m cliffs.
Drive through the lush Tinghir palm groves into the picturesque Dades Valley to admire the strange volcanic rock formations known as the “Monkey Fingers”.
Overnight: Charming guesthouse/kasbah in Dades Valley with dinner and breakfast.
Day 4: Dades Valley – Valley of Roses – Ouarzazate – Kasbah Ait Benhaddou – High Atlas – Marrakech
Drive along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through Kalaat M’gouna (Valley of Roses) and the Skoura palm oasis. Pass Ouarzazate to visit the iconic UNESCO World Heritage ksar of Ait Benhaddou.
After a leisurely lunch, ascend across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, reaching Marrakech by early evening (around 18:00 – 19:00 PM) for drop-off at your riad.
